Privacy Policy
Last updated: Oct 3, 2026
This policy explains what Judicial Insight collects, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect little: we do not sell your data, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
What we collect
- Votes without an account: a random ID stored in your browser and the option you picked. It is not linked to your name, email, or IP address.
- Account (optional): your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google. We create a public handle for you.
- What you post: comments, upvotes, reports, saved cards, and the notifications they create.
- Share statistics: when someone opens a shared link we record the channel (for example WhatsApp), the page, and the language. We do not record your IP address.
- Usage analytics (PostHog): the pages you open and actions such as voting, sharing, and opening an analysis, linked to a random browser ID. No session recordings, no keystrokes, and no email or name. In the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland this only runs if you choose “Accept all”.
- Technical logs kept briefly by our hosting providers (for example IP address and browser type) to keep the service secure and running.
Cookies and browser storage
We only use storage needed to run the site and remember your choices: your language, your feed country tab, your sign-in session, your cookie choice, and (in your browser only) your anonymous voter ID, your votes, and the topics you open so the feed can show related cases.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. We use PostHog to measure how the site is used; visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland are only included after they choose “Accept all” in the cookie banner, and everyone can turn it off. You can change your choice any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
Why we use it
- To run the service you ask for: voting, showing results, accounts, comments, saved cards, and notifications (performance of a contract).
- To keep the community safe: moderation, abuse prevention, and enforcing these rules (legitimate interest and legal obligations).
- To understand which features and share channels work, using aggregate numbers only (legitimate interest; analytics only with consent where required).
Who processes it
Supabase (database and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), and PostHog (usage analytics) process data for us, mainly in the United States. Google processes your sign-in only if you choose “Continue with Google”. These providers act under data-processing terms that include the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers outside the EU. AI tools we use to summarise court rulings receive public court documents, not your personal data.
How long we keep it
- Account data, comments, and saved cards: until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- Anonymous votes: kept as part of the vote totals.
- Reports and moderation records: as long as needed to handle abuse, then deleted.
- Hosting logs: kept by the provider for a short period.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, and we will reply within 30 days.
- EU, EEA, and UK (GDPR): you also have the rights to data portability, to object, and to restrict processing, and you can complain to your data protection authority (in France, the CNIL).
- India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): you can access, correct, and erase your data, nominate another person to exercise your rights, and raise a grievance with us first and then with the Data Protection Board of India.
- United States (including California): you can know, access, correct, and delete your personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.
Children
Judicial Insight is not meant for children under 13. To create an account you must be at least 13 in the United States, at least 15 in France (or have a parent's consent), and at least 18 in India. If you believe a child gave us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
